Android based tablets are flooding the market and with major players scrambling to maintain a hold. Sony has decided that it is time to set foot in market. According to Sony, it will be releasing two tablets, namely the S1 (Sony Tablet S) and the S2 (Sony tablet P). Both these tablets are packed with features ranging from entertainment, performance to remote access and usability.
The S1 is branded towards providing better multimedia entertainment, while the S2 will be expanding services in the mobile communication and entertainment area. Some of the basic features include touch screen with large optimized keyboard to provide better performance. The tablets will also have eBook reader functionality and infrared based remote desktop software that can be utilized to work as a universal remote controller.
The tablets operating system will be Android 3.0 Honeycomb, with dual-core Tegra processors, which enhance its speed and ensure smooth performance. The tablets will have front and back cameras, with storage options of 16-32 GB, as well as the availability of Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G enabled models. Some other features include DLNA, useful apps for pc remote access, file sharing and cloud data storage. This makes the new tablet especially useful for business users, who often need to have access to data when they are on the go.
Although the prices of the tablets have not yet been released, Sony is partnering up with AT&T for distribution and network services. The tablets are also gaming friendly as Sony as announced the S1 series can be used for as a PlayStation tablet, giving gamers the opportunity to experience the first generation PS titles on it. The tablets will be powered by 512 MB of ram, will be light weight and have around 5.5 inch screen size. Both its tablets are going to have unique features of their own and Sony want to reach all types of users from gamers to heavy mobile users. It has also included features that enable remote technology and the use of cloud services to enhance storage needs and providing more ways to share and use the tablets. The increased use of cloud based services is a new trend in mobile computing devices such as netbooks, tablet PCs and smart phones. It allows applications to be stored and to run on a remote server, rather than on the mobile device itself. This, in turn has the effect of reducing the use of resources on the device, as the application is stored and executed on the remote server.
